About the Heritage Seed Library
What we do
Conserve and make available vegetable varieties that don’t feature in modern seed catalogues.
Once we have enough seed, all our seed will become available to our members. Currently about 200 varieties feature in our Seed Catalogue.
Why we do it
To ensure that these heirlooms don’t disappear and to safeguard our heritage for future generations.
How we do it
Between 1997 and 2000 a DETR funded Seed Search was carried out. Its aim was to seek out and save regional, family and historic vegetable varieties.
Our Seed Guardians take on the responsibility for growing seed for us. Their work is essential to maintaining and boosting our seed stock.
Where we are
The Heritage Seed Library is housed at Garden Organic’s Ryton Gardens, near Rugby.
How you can help
Support the Heritage Seed Library for just £20; or £15 if you’re already a Garden Organic member.
Volunteer and get hands on at our Ryton Gardens HQ. Help harvest, clean and package seed.
